To the approved fanlisting for Murdoc Faust Niccals (née Murdoc Alphonce Niccals) is the official bass player, self-proclaimed leader and founder of Gorillaz.

Murdoc is based on The Rolling Stones' guitarist Keith Richards (specifically on a 1968 photo of the band taken by David Bailey), Creeper from Scooby-Doo and Victor Frankenstein. He is also named after Morgan Nicholls, who is a friend of Jamie Hewlett's and was Gorillaz' live bassist during the Demon Days Live performances (though the character is not directly based on him). Murdoc is also loosely based on Damon Albarn himself, with many of the events that happen to Murdoc and things that Murdoc says is loosely based on that of Albarn. "Damon is Murdoc, basically", Hewlett says, "When Damon has an adventure, it tends to happen to Murdoc too".
